Intro

There’s a theology of salt.
Bottom line represents covenant.
Numbers 18:19 NKJV
19 “All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer to the Lord, I have given to you and your sons and daughters with you as an ordinance forever; it is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord with you and your descendants with you.”
OT they met at the Temple NT after HS they went
OT full of covenants. Abrahmic, etc.
simply means promise.
Larger frame: I want you to represent the same covenant I have made with you.
Ill: LeSean winning the chili cook off. the question that got asked the most was “what did you put in it?” The way he seasoned his chili was different than all of the other chilis
App: You are in God’s hand. He’s designed you to be what He made you.
Problem: We’re living beneath our ability.

#1 It’s supposed to make food taste better

here’s the point, too much even wat low doses can be dangerous
app: Jesus is saying be responsible w your shaking!

#2 Too much destroys the meal

your taste buds calibrate to the amount of saturated fat, sugar, salt
ill: dad only eats watermelon w salt on it.

#3 Too much is dangerous

stroke, heart disease, heart attacks, high blood pressure
app: too much of you will make other folk sick. spiritual stroke-interruption of blood to the brain, heart attack - blocked arteries; disease of the heart - too much of you has made some folk angry w God; high blood pressure giving people a headache
#1 It’s supposed to make food taste better #2 Too much destroys the meal #3 Too much is dangerous #4 Too little will go unnoticed #5 One grain does NOTHING #6 The type matters #7 It’s a preservative

#4 Too little will go unnoticed

2 primary uses 1) preservation 2) flavor enhancementd

#5 One grain does NOTHING

If Jesus said “you are salt” He was making a collective statement. Which means, we are salt. The question is how salty am I?
there is a spiritual implication. 2 of us can’t fight 10000 or 1000 or 100 unless we’ve been assigned to Gideon’s platoon. But we aren’t fighting flesh beings in the first place!
synthesis: when i bring my salt based spiritual energy to meet your salt based spiritual energy riots STOP!!!

#6 The type matters

You’ve got to make the decision what kind will you be.
In recent years the switch to sea salt vs. table salt.
sea salt is collected after the water has evaporated.
table salt
fact they both are 40% sodium.
some got the message in your spirit. HS = H20 when the HS has moved and worked on your life, because you are salt (Mk 9:50) you ought to taste differently.
app: anybody ever had
Religion = table salt Relationship = sea salt
No matter type you are, you still need to be measured out

#7 It's a preservative

Mark 9:50 NKJV
50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”
it seems contradictory. salt is designed to never lose flavor. unless 2 events happen
1. mixed with impurity
Refined table salt–the pure white stuff you probably grew up using–will go bad.
It’s not because of the salt, though. It’s because of the additives. Iodine and anti-caking agents degrade over time, reducing the shelf life of the salt to about five years.

So what does it look like?
Gen 19:26 “and she became a pillar of salt”
she became what she should’ve been
“I had the last say!” Me: Because no matter where I put you, you are called to make a difference!”
Mark 9:50 NKJV
50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. 26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Invitation: What area has God shown you that you weren’t taste-able? What area is God showing you that you’re being too much?
*******************************************************

I’ve got to have the same element in me that i’m trying to put on the culture around me.
If i don’t have enough Gal 5, i can never put the fruit on what’s around me.
